Off Road

Reading CC offer offroad and gravel club runs suitable for mountain, gravel and cyclocross bikes. Members also race in MTB and cyclo-cross events.

Cyclocross racing is a form of off road bicycle racing that is mostly an autumn/winter sport, although summer CX is now also popular. The action is fast and furious and it is great to watch events as well as take part in them.

Most courses will include run-ups or artificial obstacles, so dismounting and running with the bike are also important elements of the sport. As the courses are short it makes an ideal event to bring the family.

Where to race:
Each area has a league which organises a full series, starting from September through to February. Reading comes under the Wessex League and also Central League. All local events can be entered through the British Cycling web site and cost around £15-£20.

Reading CC promote the annual Bill Higson Memorial Cyclocross event, part of the Wessex League in Prospect Park. Bill Higson – History | Reading Cycling Club
